Rz: You have already attended 11 Economic Fora in Krynica. What is the importance of this event in the time of crisis?

Jerzy Buzek: This forum has always been important, and now it has become even more significant, because we want to recover from the crisis as soon as possible. And here entrepreneurs, local self-government activists and politicians debate exactly, how to lead the economy out of crisis. And a few years ago we discussed, how to reach economic crisis at the level of 5-6 percent, and, we have already succeeded in it. That is why, I am convinced that thanks to this forum it will be possible even faster.

You mentioned GDP. We were the only one to record its growth in the EU in the II quarter. Is it a good forecast for next year?

Certainly. But it does not mean certainly that we will avoid difficulties. Unemployment can increase, not everything in finances will look like we wanted, because not long ago we planned much higher economic growth for 2009. We did not anticipate a crisis, we were not prepared to it to this extent. Yet, if we remind, how we found a way out of the financial slump already earlier, we know perfectly well – it is a matter of a year or two, certainly not longer.

The government has approved initially a draft budget with the deficit of more than 52 billion PLN. Is this deficit real?

I cannot say anything about it, because such data are only in the hands of the Ministry of Finance. Neither opposition, nor anyone from outside of the Ministry of Finance knows details, and, I guess, even other ministers do not know them. And, today we need to trust the indices of the Ministry of Finance as they are.

In this case, when in your view can we really introduce Euro? When will we be prepared to it?

It is very difficult to start this process in the time of crisis. Everything is unstable at the moment – and it is our problem. We would like to introduce Euro as soon as possible, of course. I have no doubts that in 2012 it will no longer be possible, although I repeated already earlier „we have two Euros in 2012”, in the context of both the currency and the European Championships, but now we are left only with Euro 2012 in this time. As far as currency is concerned – in my opinion 2013 or 2014 is real. The sooner the better, because it will be truly beneficial for Poland.
