The Polish economy has enjoyed the first real benefits from this year’s Forum in Krynica. Jose Manuel Barroso, the President of the European Commission, instead of flying , arrived to Polish Davos travelling on our roads. It led not only to a certain delay, but the President become familiar with the problems of the Polish road construction industry, complicated additionally by the recent flood. Therefore, we can expect perhaps that Brussels will be understanding to the Polish efforts on obtaining EU funds for reconstruction of the roads network.
Other achievements of the Forum are of less material dimensions. Certainly, a very important issue was the discussion on health care. So far, the leading themes in the discussion were related to the energy sector, investment, sovereignty in terms of raw material supplies, foreign policy of the European Union and financial institutions. A few interesting panels were organized concerning troubles in the health care sector and the plans to reform it.
From the perspective of the first two days, this year’s Forum seems to be a success. Discussions are attended by more and more experts. There were a few important and interesting guests. And, first of all, the weather was fairly good, which was decisive for Krynica’s social life. [i] Paweł Jabłoński
