For Poland and other countries in our region, the energy transformation is one of the greatest civilization challenges.
'There is no doubt that we are on the brink of a revolution. It will surely be a difficult road; we have to start now. Our thesis is about combining energy from renewable sources with natural gas on the way to climate neutrality,' said Sławomir Żygowski, the president of GE Power in Poland. 'When we look at the national perspective, we have no doubts that we have to look for different paths, respecting the diversity of the region,' Żygowski said.
As he added, hydrogen may also be of key importance in accelerating the transformation. This applies both to the use of hydrogen and the CCUS technology (carbon capture, utilization and storage - ed.).
'We think hydrogen will be a key resource in the economy of the future. We also hope to eventually produce "green hydrogen", which will open up new opportunities,' emphasized Żygowski.
The president of PGNiG, Paweł Majewski, also participated in the debate. 'Of course, methane is better than hydrogen, because it is. A quick method of "greening the natural gas" will be biomethane. Hydrogen technologies need to be refined. There is a lot yet to be done, not only by enterprises, but also in terms of legislation. There are no regulations in this regard. It is difficult to invest in this sector. Biomethane is a proven technology. The role of natural gas as a transitional fuel is embedded in strategic documents,' said Paweł Majewski.
