We are convinced that due to the fact that the Lisbon Treaty has been already binding for a few months, the European Union will act more effectively now and respond to social expectations – assured Jerzy Buzek, the President of the European Parliament, during the opening session of the XX Economic Forum in Krynica. Together with Jose Manuel Barroso, the President of the European Commission, Bronisław Komorowski, the President of Poland and Toomas Hendrik Ilves, the President of Estonia and Thomas de Maiziere, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Germany, they debated on the strategy for Europe in the coming years.
The Lisbon Treaty and its consequences for the entire Community as well as for individual states and the necessity to prepare a new development strategy are the motto of the XX Economic Forum in Krynica.
The President of the EC, Jose Manuel Barroso, emphasized that it is worth drawing conclusions from the recent crisis; and after all they have already been drawn;– Still two years ago discussion about Pan-European banking supervision would have been very difficult. And we begin next year with the review of the national budgets of individual countries – said Barroso.
President Bronisław Komorowski stressed that if Europe wants to achieve economic and social success, a balance should be maintained among incentives to innovativeness, globalization and solidarity in the energy sector, which consists in opening energy markets.
