Lekcja 6: Professional Certificates
Living in a competitive global market forces working professionals to try to stay one step ahead of their rivals. Learning and advancing one’s skills is a requirement for individuals who want to succeed in their careers.
Professional certifications are passports to domestic and global employment opportunities.
Awarding bodies
Certificates are awarded by Professional Bodies, which are usually non-profit organizations, that supervise the development of professional educational programs and the upgrading of professional skills. Most certificates are not awarded for a lifetime, but must be renewed as they are valid only for a specific period of time.
Types of Certifications
There are three general types of certification. Listed in order of development level and portability, they are: corporate (internal), product-specific, and profession-wide. The most general type of certification is profession-wide. Below are a few examples of well-known professional certifications.
1. The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) is a UK based professional body offering training and qualification in management accountancy and related subjects, focused on accounting for business. With emphasis placed on strategic business skills, a CIMA qualification can widen one’s career options in and outside of finance.
2. The Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is awarded by the Project Management Institute (PMI) and demonstrates the understanding of the knowledge and skills needed to lead and direct project teams and deliver results. PMP credentials ensure that all of the aspects of a project plan are executed.
3. The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) is a certification with a strong focus on professional values, ethics, and governance. These skills are essential as the profession moves towards strengthened codes of conduct, regulation, and legislation – with an increasing focus on professionalism and ethics in accounting. Being awarded such a certificate can help to hold top finance jobs at any kind of organization, from SMEs (small and medium sized enterprises) to large companies listed on the stock exchange.
